Tyler Perry has gotten into some hot water regarding some song lyrics featured in his 2009 movie, Madea Goes to Jail. The popular filmmaker is accused of lifting lyrics from a gospel song for the movie. According to a federal lawsuit, Tyler allegedly pirated an entire verse from “When I Think of the Goodness of Jesus,” written in 1950 by singer Bertha James.
No credit or payment was made for the lyrics used in a monologue by Perry’s Madea during a court proceeding in the film. James’ estate is seeking unspecified damages for copyright infringement from Perry and Lionsgate Entertainment which distributes his films.
